Don’t hide your ‘oops!’ moments

After being filmed struggling and failing to set up a tent for an episode of his TV show, Mr. Rogers was asked if he wanted to re-shoot the scene.

His answer? “No, this is good.”

He was later asked why he didn’t just let someone else set the tent up for him (which his crew offered to do).

Mr. Rogers responded, “Children need to know that even when adults make plans, sometimes they don’t turn out the way we’d hoped.”

The lesson for managers?

The most powerful way to let your people know it’s okay if things don’t go as planned

Is to put your own ‘oops!’ moments on display.
